Now, you already have a survival kit with you. You also have to know what emergency preparedness you must do in order to survive a disaster or pandemic.
1. Always be aware of different kinds of disasters so that you are always prepared. Being mentally and emotionally prepared increases your chances of survival.
2. Try not to panic so your loved ones won't also panic. Of course, fear is inevitable in an emergency. However, good planning with factual information from credible sources will help you act more efficiently.
3. Be aware of your limits. You have to understand your physical limitations, resources, and medical or dietary needs. This helps you make a custom survival plan for your whole family.
them4. Physically prepare and rehearse your plan and don't be afraid to make changes if you need it.
5. Learn how to do more with less at hand. You need to learn how to improvise if you don't have electricity or you run out of gas. Tent camping is also a good example of learning to survive.
6. Make it simple. Your preparedness plans and survival gears should be practical for realistic scenarios. You have to test and practice with what you plan to use.
7. Know the local threats in your area which are both natural and manmade. Know the safe routes or places to go.
8. In case you are forced to leave your home, make a mobile emergency kit for you and your family. Have one at work too since this is helpful in case a disaster happens while you are at work.
9. Do the W.I.S.E or Working to Innovate Safety Education thing. Share your plans with your co-workers and neighbors once your family is prepared. This is easier when everyone has the same plans as you.
10. Review your plan every now and then. Ensure that your plan remains appropriate since your family and work situations change. Check your supplies as well such as batteries, medications, or food to make sure they are not yet expired.
